• A town where nature and people coexist.

Our town, ODAI-CHO, and its surrounding areas, particularly the Osugidani Valley, have been designated as a UNESCO Eco Park. With 93% of the town covered by forests, it's a place where nature and people coexist. Odai-cho is home to Osugidani, one of Japan's three great valleys, which preserves near-pristine natural landscapes, and the Miyagawa River, renowned as Japan's clearest river. We have continuously protected the unique natural forms found here. In the deep forests, hundreds of years-old trees stand tall, and amago fish swim in the river, symbolizing its pristine waters. The most distinctive feature of Odai-cho's nature is the presence of over 500 species of diverse broadleaf and coniferous trees. Such a diverse forest environment is rare in Japan. To preserve this unique nature for future generations, we are engaged in "forest creation." We collect seeds from native trees, cultivate seedlings, and plant them in suitable locations, selecting the right tree for the right place. By creating forests in harmony with nature in this way, both nature and people can thrive. While it takes a long, long time for a single tree to grow magnificent, we believe this is something only those of us living in Odai-cho can do. "Odai" products are part of our forest creation efforts. All branches and leaves used as raw materials are hand-collected, and essential oils are carefully extracted over time. We have maximized the blessings of nature. We invite you to experience the rich nature of Odai-cho.

  • Nature and humans coexist in harmony.

Our home, Odai Town, is recognized as part of a UNESCO designated Biosphere Reserve. As forests cover 93 percent of Odai Town, people lead their lives in harmony with the abundant nature. Odai Town boasts near-pristine forests, which encompass the Osugidani Valley, known as one of the three major ravines in Japan; and the Miyagawa River, which is rated as the clearest class A river in Japan. Deep in the forest, towering centuries-old trees are rooted firmly and freshwater trout swim in the mountain stream as a symbol of purity. The most remarkable characteristic is the fact that over 500 species of various broad-leaved trees and conifers have grown here. It is very rare in Japan for the forest to support such a diverse environment. This unique natural state, indigenous to this region, has been painstakingly maintained. And to further protect this unrivaled natural setting for future generations, we have begun on forest conservation. Collecting seeds from naturally grown trees, raising their seedlings, choosing planting locations, and planting them in the suitable area—through this forest conservation process in accordance with the laws of nature, we can live harmoniously with nature. Although the growth of even one tree requires much patience, this effort is what is now required of us, the people of Odai. Our series of Odai products also makes up part of our forest conservation. By gathering branches and leaves as ingredients and extracting their essential oil carefully, we successfully unveil nature’s rich blessing. Experience the pristine beauty of the abundant nature in Odai Town.

Odaicho is part of the Odaigahara, Omine Mountains, and Osugidani UNESCO Eco Park.

"UNESCO Eco Park" is the common name in Japan for "Biosphere Reserves," which are areas certified by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as aiming for culturally, economically, and socially sustainable development while protecting rich ecosystems and biodiversity. They consist of three areas: core areas, buffer zones, and transition areas.
